New horizon

by Admin on Dec.05, 2008, under Work

Horizon Home Improvements is a rapidly expanding company which has built its reputation on expert knowledge and high quality service and materials. It is particularly successful at blending new technology with traditional building styles to create durable and attractive solutions for windows, doors, conservatories and sunrooms. We’ve just completed a new website for them which shows an extensive portfolio of their work.

MD Andrew Jones says, “we maintain the highest standards of craftsmanship and during a job and we work cleanly and considerately, which must be one of the reasons why our customers keep coming back. We are also never pushy and don’t try to confuse with special offers. We just offer a fair price for an excellent quality job”.

The Severn Tidal Reef

by Admin on Nov.17, 2008, under Work

We’re pleased to be working for Evans Engineering who have developed an exciting new design for the proposed Severn Tidal Reef. The Evans Family have been water engineers since at least 1810 and more recently have been involved in water pumping and water power projects all over the world.

Evans Engineering are passionate about water power and their headquarters at Trecarrell Mill near Launceston has been self-sufficient with hydroelectricity for the last 50 years!

Rupert Armstrong Evans’ design for the Severn Tidal Reef project stretching from Minehead to Aberthaw is a totally new concept in tidal power generation with the prospect of being environmentally and ecologically friendly while still allowing the passage of ships and generating as much or even greater amounts of electricity than the mammoth Cardiff-Weston barrage.

No Mistake!

by Admin on Oct.28, 2008, under Work

We’ve just completed the latest in a series of CD-ROMs for educational publisher Revilo. NO MISTAKE! aims to improve the written  English of any student - foreign or English! Is it their’s or there’s, me and Harry or Harry and I?  I learnt quite a lot while working on this project! Here’s their blurb:

“ITS DEFINATLY YOU’RE PROBLEM!”

Doesn’t it drive you nuts? Your students’ written work is marred by a small number of common mistakes which are repeated over and over again. If they eliminate those errors, there’s a dramatic improvement in quality. The reader is no longer distracted from the content.

NO MISTAKE is a new interactive CD-ROM which can be installed on a school network and accessed whenever you want. It homes in on all those irritating mistakes we know so well: apostrophes, common mis-spellings, confusing words, their / they’re, etc, etc. It can also be used in class and by pupils working on their own at home.

No Mistake is self-marking and contains all the rules and tips the users need. Simple and practical to use, No Mistake is priced to be a bargain for any English department. It is just £50 plus VAT for a fully-networkable version with site licence. There is also a single-user version available at just £10. Visit the Revilo website: www.revilolang.com

TECHNICAL DETAILS

Like all Revilo interactive CD_ROMs this works on both Windows PCs and Macs thanks to Adobe Director. We are now working on new internet based learning software for Revilo. Watch this space!

Graham Harvey’s Carbon Fields

by Admin on Oct.16, 2008, under Work

We’ve just finished working on the design and layout for a new book by award winning author Graham Harvey which is being published by Grass Roots.

Graham is best known as the Agricultural Story Editor for ‘The Archers’ - the epic BBC Radio 4 soap, although he is also the author of several campaigning books about food, farming and the environment including ‘The Killing of the Countryside’.

The book investigates grass feeding of cattle and explains how this can help fight climate change, produce more healthy food, bring wildlife back to our countryside and make agriculture sustainable.

The book is a compelling read and can be obtained from the Grass Roots website.

P.S. Archers forever!

About blogs

by Admin on Aug.01, 2008, under Work

The word “Blog” is an abbreviated version of “weblog,” which is a term used to describe a frequently updated web site that is like a diary. Blogs usually have:

  • A main content area with articles listed chronologically, newest on top. Often, the articles are organized into categories.
  • An archive of older articles.
  • A way for people to leave comments about the articles.
  • A list of links to other related sites.
  • One or more “feeds” like RSS, Atom or RDF files.

Some blogs may have additional features beyond these.

Perennial favourites

by Admin on Jun.12, 2008, under Work

We’ve just designed and produced a full colour publicity leaflet for Ellis Nurseries and Gardens near Launceston. Part of the fun was in visiting the nursery and taking the photographs. Ideal conditions for taking pictures of plants are overcast and damp (not a problem this year!) and completely still. The nursery specialises in Euphorbias (Spurges) but also has a great range of perennials. The show gardens are a blaze of colour at this time of the year (June) although there is always something to see all through the year. Visit the Ellis Nurseries website.
